Science, Technologies and Legal Processes: The Place, Role and Impact of Materiality

October 24, 2013

In this workshop, we would like to interrogate the role of materiality in the interface between law and technoscience. In doing so, we hope to bring together traditional concerns within STS for the role of materials in mediating and ordering social relationships, and recent explorations in interdisciplinary legal studies that have engaged the meanings of materiality within the law. We invite papers that seek to examine, through empirical or conceptual analyses, the ways in which materials participate in defining and shaping legal processes, and the meanings of materiality for our understanding of the law.
